UPDATE: Driver in Sunday's fatal crash near Canton held on $2M bond

VAN ZANDT COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - DPS officials confirm that four people were killed in an afternoon collision on Highway 19 just 1.4 miles north Canton.

Troopers tell KLTV 7 that around 2pm Sunday, a Ford Mustang veered across the center line and struck two motorcycles.

The motorcycles were each carrying 2 people. Bruce and Shannon Bricker, ages 52 and 41, respectively of Highland Village. The second motorcycle was driven by Steve Claterbaugh, 41 of Rowlett and was carrying passenger Kathleen Smith, 52 of Wiley.

All 4 of the riders were pronounced dead at the scene. Three of them where wearing helmets.

The Mustang caught fire moments after the wreck, but all 3 people were able to get out.

The driver, 31-year old Jose Pena and his passenger, 31-year old Rosalind Vela of Rosharon, Texas, were both taken to local hospitals. DPS said Pena suffered fractured ribs and lacerations. Vela suffered facial fractures.

A 3-year old boy who was in the car was flown to Childrens Hospital in Dallas. His name and condition have not yet been released.

Pena is charged with four counts of criminally negligent homicide, and is being held in the Van Zandt County Jail on a 2 million dollar bond.
