SULPHUR SPRINGS, TX (KLTV) - Police detectives are investigating human remains found in a 15 acre pasture at a residence on the west side of Sulphur Springs.
Police say the property's owners were bailing hay around noon Thursday when they stumbled upon a human skull.
Investigators began combing through the property and discovered about 15 bone fragments, several articles of clothing and a Chicago, Illinois ID card.
Detective Bo Fox said the bones were decomposed and starting to bleach out. Fox said he believes the remains have been there since the winter considering one of the articles of clothing was a heavy coat.
While investigators say there is nothing at this point to indicate foul play, they still consider the property at an active crime scene.
Police say the pasture is located in close proximity to a railroad track, so it's possible the remains could be that of a transient.
Investigators say the bones will be sent off to a lab at the University of North Texas in Denton.
