Elderly woman not indicted in fatal motorcycle wreck

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - A Smith County Grand Jury has decided not to indict an elderly woman involved in a fatal motorcycle accident last month.

On May 10, 71-year-old Helen Rice Turner turned into the path of a motorcycle rider near Broadway Square Mall while she was at a flashing yellow arrow. The wreck caused 23-year-old Kendrick Clark's bike to catch fire, trapping him underneath. Clark died from his injuries.

Tyler Police said although the collision happened at a flashing yellow arrow light, Turner had been stopped at the intersection and she did not appear to be confused by the light.

Thursday morning, Smith County District Attorney Matt Bingham said he felt like this case needed to be taken to the Grand Jury for their review.

"After hearing all the evidence, including the officers at the scene, eye witnesses and Helen Turner, the Grand Jury did not find probable cause to believe that a crime had occurred," said Bingham.
