Around 500 employees at Tyler Pipe's South Plant remain out of work today, ten days after the plant shut down becuase of air permit problems. Plant officials announced Friday, they were close to making an agreement with TCEQ to resume operations. But plant workers say, that doesn't offer them much help.
"We're having a lot of phone calls from those workers," said Stephen Lynch of the East Texas Workforce Center. "This morning, we have just started seeing an influx of traffic from workers who are just coming in to register for work. It's my understanding that they feel that they will be going back to work and hopefully soon, but until then, these benefits are there for them to apply for."
