JT Mourns Loss Of Teacher

John Tyler High School is mourning the loss of one of it's teachers. 67-year-old James Fite, a computer technology teacher, was killed in a car accident near Kilgore Friday. The school held a moment of silence this morning to honor him. Crisis counselors were brought onto campus to help both students and fellow teachers cope.

"John Tyler is a family," said Principal Dr. Aubrey Todd. "It's a family type atmosphere, and of course, anytime anyone gets sick, and particularly if anyone passes away, it definitely affects us here. Mr. Fite had been a faculty member here for four, going on five years, and a very integral part of what we do here, so it was sad to hear about what happened to him."

Fite taught for more than 20 years, including about 10 years at Hogg Middle School, and seven years in Palestine.

A memorial service for Fite will be held Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Tyler.
