RUSK COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Independence Day could take on a much different look in Rusk County, depending on a special meeting called for Monday.
Rusk County Judge Joel Hale will ask commissioners to give him the authority to write a letter to the governor requesting disaster declaration for his county.
The urgency for the letter is due to extreme drought, massive wildfires in East Texas and the prevention of any further elements which would cause more fires.
"Our ability will be to ban fireworks for an extended period of time, and of course we're looking at through the Fourth of July. Our Commissioners Court is concerned about property [and] safety of the people of this county," explained Hale.
The special meeting is set for Monday at 9 a-am at rusk county courthouse.
