SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Campers are enjoying their summer break at Camp Tyler this week. But this is different than most camps you know about...this is diabetes camp.
It is here that children and teenagers who struggle with type one and two diabetes have some fun while learning how to manage the disease.
Today, campers got a few intense rounds of Zumba before heading out to the lake for a refreshing swim.
The camp emphasizes exercise, nutrition and diabetes education.
But what really makes this camp special are the bonds the kids form with one another. Camper Elijah Branton says this is the first time he has ever fit in.
"It's fun. Nobody says 'hey, that's that Diabetes kid!"
His mother, Brandy Branton says the camp is a true blessing.
