Melanie Torre

Born and raised in Ft. Worth Texas, Melanie Torre joined the KLTV News team in June of 2011 and couldn't be happier to start her career with the East Texas News Leader.

She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in May of 2011 with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and a concentration in Business. With burnt orange in her veins, Melanie is proud to be serving East Texas as a Longhorn alum.

As a student at UT, Melanie began reporting and anchoring for KVR News, the university's student-run TV station. After two years as an anchor and reporter she was promoted to News Director. While serving in this position, KVR News was named the best college newscast in Texas and Oklahoma by the Society of Professional Journalists.

Melanie has won multiple first place awards for reporting and photography from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association.

In 2010, Melanie became the first on-air intern for KEYE-TV (CBS Austin). For six months she pitched, wrote, shot and edited her own stories for their 4 p.m. show, "Austin Live."

Melanie also spent her senior year as a student reporter for ABC News, with some of her work featured on and broadcast nationally on ABC's World News Now.

In college Melanie served as president of the women's service organization Texas Spirits, helping to raise $20,000 each year for the Make A Wish Foundation. Serving others has always been her passion.

Melanie says the things she loves most in life are her family and friends, spicy food, travel and Texas football.

Already in love with beautiful East Texas, Melanie can't get over how friendly people are here. Melanie enjoys meeting new people so if you ever see her around, don't hesitate to introduce yourself. If you have a story you'd like Melanie to tell email her at
