(WMC-TV) - Molly Jane Roe faced a judge Thursday morning on charges she sexually abused and murdered her boyfriend's baby.
Roe made her court appearance on a video monitor. The courtroom was packed with her family members, as well as relatives of the infant who died.
"They've got a lot of anger built up," said family friend Jessica Lidi. "Also a lot of hurt."
Phillip Murley, Jr. is the child's father. Roe was his girlfriend. Investigators said Roe was angry with Murley when she threw the infant hard enough to cause brain damage.
"It's having a lot of impact," said Lidi. "I mean, both families are confused right now and sad. I mean, they're just trying to understand what's really going on for themselves right now."
Family friend Megan Jordan was among several Crockett County mothers who showed up at the hearing wearing pink and purple in support of the murdered child.
"It just ain't right," said Jordan.
Friends said the child's biological father and mother held a funeral service for her Wednesday. Roe will be back in court next Thursday.
