TYLER, TX (KLTV) - East Lake Tyler is being stocked with Florida Largemouth Bass Fingerlings.
Thursday morning 115,000 fingerlings produced at the Athens Hatchery were released into Lake Tyler. The purpose of putting the fingerlings into the lake is so they will breed with the native bass already in the lake to create a hybrid fish.
Introducing the Florida genetics into the lake will produce bigger fish for people who like fishing.
The largest bass caught in the state as a result of this type of stocking was 18 lbs. Texas Parks and Wildlife has been trying to stock Lake Tyler with these fingerlings annually for about 15 years.
Record bass caught at Lake Tyler since then 12.75 lbs.
