LINDALE, TX (KLTV) - A Smith County deputy constable was injured while apprehending a suspect this morning.

According to authorities, Precinct 5 Deputy Constable Tommy Goodman was responding to a suspicious person call on Blueberry Rd. near FM 2710. After making contact with the suspect, James Christopher Walls, 20, and looking up his criminal history, Goodman learned he was wanted on a sexual assault of a child warrant out of Wood County.

When deputy Goodman was arresting Walls, he broke away and a scuffle ensued. Walls then ran into a nearby house and hid in a closet.

During the struggle Goodman struck his knee on the asphalt.  Deputy Goodman called for back-up and Lindale police officers and another Smith County deputy responded to the scene.

James Walls was apprehended a short time later. He was charged with resisting arrest.

Deputy Goodman went to a local hospital to have his knee X-rayed.
