ETX man sentenced for meth possession

MARSHALL, Texas – A 54-year-old Jefferson, Texas man has been sentenced to federal prison for drug violations in the Eastern District of Texas announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales today.

Dever Lee Applewhite pleaded guilty on Jan. 25, 2011, to possession of pseudoephedrine with intent to manufacture methamphetamine and was sentenced to 72 months in federal prison on June 14, 2011 by U.S. District Judge T. John Ward.

According to information presented in court, on Jan. 10, 2010, Applewhite purchased cold pills containing pseudoephedrine at a WalMart, a Walgreens and a CVS in Marshall, Texas. The purchases were all made in less than 30 minutes of each other. Appewhite's co-defendants have already been convicted and sentenced in this case. Summer Berry Applewhite was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison on April 20, 2011 and Ralph Arthur Finley was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison on May 18, 2011. This case was indicted by a federal grand jury on May 6, 2010.
