TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Late Tuesday night, the Tyler Police Department received an emergency call from a resident at 1512 W. Nutbush, saying he had just shot someone.
When officers arrived on North Gaston Street, they found a man, identified as 56-year old Kenneth Mass, lying on the porch with a gunshot wound to the right shoulder.
Tyler Police say it was the shooter who actually told them what happened.
"As far as I know not too much goes on around here," said Mattie Davis, neighbor of the shooter.
So when Davis heard the news about the shooting in her neighborhood she was shocked.
"When I'm home I'm usually in the back so I don't know much of what's going on around here," said Davis.
Tyler officials say surprisingly they received the call from the shooter who identified himself as Zelton. He told them he shot 56-year-old Kenneth Mass.
"The person that was shot it was just a shoulder wound so nothing life threatening," said Don Martin, Tyler Police Department PIO
Tyler Police say soon after he was shot Mass took off on foot and ended up down the street on Fenton St.
We spoke to Zelton who confirmed he did know Mass.
Zelton says Mass frequented his home often and described him as a bully.
Investigators say they're not sure what the motives for the shooting were, but know there was an altercation between the two.
Tyler Police say Mass was taken to a local Tyler hospital where he was treated for his gun wounds.
Tyler Police say no arrests have been made or charges filed at this time.
The case is still under investigation.
