Huffstickler named Lee interim head coach

Tyler I.S.D. has announced that Robert E. Lee defensive coordinator Randy Huffstickler has accepted the role as interim head football coach.  Huffstickler has been the Red Raiders defensive coordinator the last seven years.  Huffstickler replaces long time head coach Mike Owens, who resigned last month.  Owens had said in May, he wanted to return to the Red Raiders next season.

"With the time constraints involved with the start of a new football season, the interim coaching situation will serve as a seamless transition for the student athletes," said Tyler I.S.D. athletic director Rod Kaspar.  "The culture and tradition of Robert E. Lee football will stay the same and give the players an opportunity to continue to move forward in a positive direction."

The interim position begins immediately.  The possibility of considering applications for the permanent role will be revisited at the end of the year.
