An ultra-light plane crashed in Henderson county. The two men inside, a father and son, are in a Tyler hospital tonight. It all started about 2 hours ago with a report of some kind of plane down west of Athens and southeast of Eustace. The crash site is between highway 175 and FM 2329. This particular kind of ultra-light is sometimes referred to as a paraplane. A volunteer firefighter says it crashed through the top of a tree in a pasture with two people inside. The two men were flown by helicopter to ETMC in Tyler tonight. They've been identified as 50 year old Randall Joe Whatley and his 19 year old son Arlie Joe Whatley -- both from Henderson county. They are in fair condition tonight according to the hospital. The firefighter we talked with says the FAA generally does not investigate when an ultra-light crashes. He says no federal authorities are expected to be involved.
