LINDALE, TX (KLTV) - Twelve months in the desert, and now he's home. Specialist Christopher Maddox was greeted like a hero by the Welcome Home Soldiers group. He flew into Dallas this afternoon, and his mother took him straight to the Cracker Barrel in Lindale for his much deserved Hoo-Raa!
Christopher Maddox, driven by his mother Joyce pulled up in a green jeep. Appropriate because she was also in the military. She was a nurse, and Chris must have liked the sounds of that because he's an Army medic.
Today, a very surprised Army medic.
"I looked at my mom and I was just like, what did you do? I didn't expect this. I just thought we were meeting family for dinner. Just glad to be back home visiting family for a little bit before going back," Chris said.
"Well, this is your family now," I said.
"Yes, sir," He said.
"I think it's so special for the troops to know that people care about them," Joyce Maddox said.
Chris knows that now. So what are his plans while here?
"Relax, watch cable and actually go see a movie," He answered.
"Get some more schooling and hopefully make a career out of it as well," He said.
So, like mother, like son, even though Joyce kind of wishes he'd chosen a different career.
Maddox will be home for two weeks, then it's back to the desert heat ... but this time in Afghanistan.
