Jacksonville officer on probation following incident

JACKSONVILLE, TX (KLTV) - A Jacksonville police officer has been put on suspension, a situation that all started with a traffic collision.

On Thursday, Officer Tim McDonald was called to the scene of a collision on Canada Street in Jacksonville. Jeremy Beall says the officer didn't handle the situation professionally.

Jacksonville PD says because the officer did not take a statement from both parties involved and file a report, he is being reprimanded.

"And like most humans, he made a mistake. But he owned that mistake. He came in and admitted to me that he had done it and knew that he had made a mistake. I can bet you that he'll never do it again," says Reece Daniel, Jacksonville Police Chief.

Officer McDonald is now on a three month probation. He will still be patrolling the streets of Jacksonville while retraining with his sergeant and having the police tapes in his car reviewed daily.

McDonald is the first Jacksonville officer to be placed on probation in five years.
