GREENSBURG, IN (FOX19) - The Decatur County Prosecutor's Office released more information Monday on the death of Devin Parsons, 12.
A criminal charge of murder was filed against Devin's mother, Tasha Parsons, 29. Charges of neglect of a dependent, causing death, were also filed against Waldo Jones, 30, who had lived with Parsons and her children for about 12 months.
According to court documents, on June 3, Tasha Parsons beat her son with her hands, feet and with physical objects, including a belt and metal tray, eventually causing his death.
Parsons told police that Devin took her Percocet pills, and would not tell her where to find them. She said the beating took place over a number of hours.
Jones was home at the time of the beating and told police he tried to intervene a couple of times. However, Parsons told investigators that Jones also participated in the beating, and helped clean Devin's wounds.
When Devin lost consciousness, Jones left the home without seeking medical attention for Devin. Jones was found less than an hour after police were notified of the death.
Police got the 911 call at about 3:25 p.m. on June 3 that the boy was barely breathing. Devin was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy on Devin Parsons is scheduled for Tuesday, June 7.
Parsons faces 45 to 65 years in prison if convicted of murder. Jones faces 20 to 50 years.
