GLADEWATER, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas soldier died Sunday in Afghanistan.

Family members confirm, Chief Warrant Officer 2, Brad Gaudet, 31, of Gladewater was killed in Afghanistan.

CWO Gaudet was a helicopter pilot in the Sixth U.S. Calvary Regiment. This was his third tour of duty.

Chief Gaudet was the step son of  city councilman Scott Owens and had two daughters.

"He was one of those people that just lived up to all he could be he literally was the army's motto," said Rhonda Owens, Brad Gaudet's mother.

So it was no surprise to Rhonda that at the young age of 17, Brad Gaudet signed up for the Army Reserves to start his career with the US Army.

"He was very outgoing very aggressive at anything he did he gave 110% to everything that he did," said Rhonda.

Chief Warrant Officer Gaudet served two tours in Iraq before leaving for Afghanistan last October.

Rhonda says fortunately the father of two was able to come home in May to see the birth of his second daughter Addyson.

"He arrived in New York the day that his daughter was born his wife was actually in labor at the hospital when he got there," said Rhonda.

After being in the Army for 14 years Rhonda says deployment is something you have to leave in God's hands when it comes to your loved ones.

"I had to put him in God's hands and it was his will not to return this time and that's something I'm going to have to learn to deal with day by day," said Rhonda.
The family says there will be a memorial service for Brad Gaudet in the coming weeks in Fort Drum, NY.

They plan to bury Gaudet in Gladewater.
