CHEROKEE COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Workers with the SPCA of East Texas and the Cherokee County Sheriff's Officer plan to seize several abused and neglected animals on Friday.

The animals were found on a property on CR 3304 in Jacksonville.

A deputy who visited the site said several horses are emaciated and have serious injuries.

Deputy Joe Self wrote in a his application for a warrant to seize the animals: "All animals are confined in one common area.

Stud horses and mares are indiscriminately breeding and all of the mares may possibly be pregnant.

Animals exhibited numerous hoof conditions and two horses exhibited eye injuries.  Numerous bones were strewn about within the area of these animals confinement.  The pasture was absent any natural food source and basically a dirt lot. Neighboring fence lines have been completely grazed by these animals attempting to reach food. Vast amounts of garbage, lose barb wire, scrap metal and broken glass were present.

As a result of my inspection of said animals, I believe that said animals are being cruelly confined, severely neglected and improperly fed and I hereby apply to the Justice Court, Precinct No. 3, Cherokee County, Texas for a warrant to seize said Equine in accordance with Art. 821.022, Health and Safety Code."

A total of nine animals, including horses and cows, may be seized.
