Funeral services announced for fmr. principal Hollis

Nathan Hollis. Nathan Hollis.

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - The funeral has been set for a longtime East Texas principal.

Nathan Hollis, who served as principal of John Tyler High School and worked for TISD for 33 years, died Monday from a sudden illness.

Friend and colleague Zeb Cantley says Hollis was a big man with an even bigger heart, "Nathan was the kind of person that cared about people and cared about his staff, cared about his community, and cared about his kids. So whenever he made decisions it would be for the benefit of all trying to look at it from a global aspect."

Hollis was forced to retire early after he hurt his back in an accident.

Family say Hollis had a previous medical history, but it's unknown whether it was related to his death. Before this week, family say  Hollis was making plans to return to the school system for the next school year.

And while Hollis' plans were cut short, family and friends say the impact he made on the East Texas community will not be forgotten.

Hollis' funeral service will be Saturday at North Tennaha Church of Christ in Tyler around noon.
