TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Results from GMAC Insurance survey show that nearly one in five Americans are unfit to be on the roads today.
The test was taken in all fifty states and the District of Columbia. The chilling results show that only 77.9% of Americans would pass the exam.
Texas ranks 33rd with close to 77% of those passing the test. The top spot belongs to Kansas at nearly 83% with the District of Columbia coming in last place around 72%.
The questions on the test were taken from various state department of motor vehicle written tests. We talked to some East Texans to see what they think about the test.
Kendale Hamlet of Tyler says, "I think people should have to retake it, it helps you know... lets them remember the things that they need to keep driving safely... maybe not go out with an instructor, but take a written test."
On the other hand, Kim Moore thinks the driving test is more important. "I say a driving test---people's skills change, I mean their sight, their vision, just their motor skills and all."
In the state of Texas, you have to retake both the driving and the written tests if your licenses has been expired for more than two years.
