Two Linden Men Have Been Arrested

Two Linden men have been arrested and warrants have been issued for two others in the beating and dumping of Billy Ray Johnson, a mentally handicapped black man who had attended a party with the suspects. Authorities arrested 19-year-old John Wesley Owens who lived at the farm where the Sept. 28 party was held. James Cory Hicks is a former Cass County jailer who lost his job after confessing that he had been at the party. Both are being held at the Cass County jail an aggravated assault charge, a second-degree felony. Hicks claimed to have found an unconscious Johnson on the side of a desolate, heavily wooded road about three hours after he'd been dumped there. Warrants were also issued for 18-year-old Dallas Chadwick Stone and 20-year-old Christopher Colt Amox on the same complaint. Linden Police Chief Alton McWaters expects their lawyers to turn them in tomorrow.
