EAST TEXAS (KLTV) - The possibility of hopping a train in East Texas for a quick trip to Dallas is one step closer to reality.
On Friday, two groups joined forces to discuss another travel option between Dallas and East Texas.
The Northeast Texas Regional Mobility Authority teamed up with DART and announced the beginning stages of their planning.
Jeff Austin says this is an opportunity that East Texas can't pass up, "We like to think in East Texas is that when the metroplex sneezes we catch ammonia, so what happens in the Metroplex and all ports around us is very important to East Texas."
"If we don't start making this today, it doesn't happen on it's own, it's not going to happen on accident, and it's going to take awhile to put it in place."
There's no time frame on when the lines would be operational because there are so many communities involved---and they'll all be asked to take part in planning.
