WOOD COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - The Wood County man found in possession of 79 giant snakes has been found guilty and fined for owning exotic snakes without the proper permit.

Damon James Heynen was arrested last month on outstanding warrants.

The next day, State Game Wardens, Wood County Deputies and even Zoo Keepers were called in to ID and move Boas and Albino Burmese Pythons into clean containers with clean water.

In a hearing to determine custody of the serpents, the judge awarded custody to the Humane Society of North Texas and ordered that Heynen pay $4,000 for the care of the snakes.

Heynen is fined $500 and is being held in Wood County, awaiting extradition to Louisiana after failing to show up at a court hearing on 22 counts of animal cruelty.
