East Texas officials look to expand rail

DALLAS, TX (KLTV) - DART officials and representatives of the North East Regional Mobility Authority will meet Friday, May 27 at 10:00 am until 10:30 am at Union Station in 400 South Houston in Dallas to sign an agreement to explore rail connections between North and East Texas.

The agreement recognizes the importance of coordinated transportation planning as the two agencies work to expand rail in the area.

The agreement encourages the two agencies to identify "potential issues of mutual interest in the development of plans" for future rail service between the North Central, North East and East regions of Texas.

This is the first step to bringing passenger rail, not high speed trains, to East Texas and eventually expanding to Shreveport. It will start conversation on what will work for the area.
