Officer charged with possessing child porn

By: James Clark

SLATON, TX (KCBD) - KCBD NewsChannel 11's "Daybreak Today" was first to report Tuesday morning that former Slaton Police Lieutenant Richard "Rick" Lewis was charged Monday with possessing child pornography.

Lewis resigned suddenly under mysterious circumstances this month.  Both the Chief of Police and the Mayor in Slaton said they knew that Lewis was under investigation by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security but they did not know specifically what he was accused of doing.

Newly released federal court records say agents with Homeland Security seized three computers, 80 CD's, and 10 VHS tapes from Lewis' home in Slaton on May 11th.  Lewis' computer at the Slaton Police Department was also examined by federal agents.  The criminal complaint makes it clear Lewis is accused of having child pornography on one or more of his home computers.  The complaint does not mention his police computer one way or the other.

Court records say, "Lewis admitted to downloading and viewing several images and videos…" of "sexually explicit material depicting children."

Court records say one image showed a man with a little girl who was small enough to still be diapers.

The charge against Lewis is not specific about other examples except to say there were numerous computer files associated with "minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct."
