Bound, nude woman not cooperating with police

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - Evansville Police are now questioning whether a sexual assault that was reported Monday morning, actually happened. Police say a passerby found the woman partially nude, and bound with duct tape along the Pigeon Creek Greenway near Garvin Park just before 9 a.m.

Police interviewed the victim and she says the last thing she remembers is dropping her child off at school at 7:40 a.m. The victim also told police she was hit in the head.

Officers say there are several things that just don't add up, and say the 30-year-old woman gave them little information at the scene.

Police also say several red flags arose when her account didn't match medical tests results, and when police found she has a history of reporting similar crimes that have resulted in no prosecution.

EPD PIO Karen Kajmowicz says, "At this point, we are assuming it's a sexual assault, but we don't have too much information from the victim. We are canvassing out to make sure we follow up on all leads, and we're trying to talk to as many witnesses as possible."

Now, police say the woman is no longer participating in the investigation. Police say they understand that inconsistencies can occur, especially in a high stress situation.

However, Kajmowicz says someone being bound is out of the ordinary, but says this case has no similarities to the rapes that occurred on the south side of Evansville.

Police say this victim has a history of reporting similar crimes that have resulted in no prosecution. We'll keep you updated.
