Palestine furniture store burglary suspects in custody

Released by The Palestine Police Department:

PALESTINE, TX (KLTV) - On May 22, 2011 shortly after 3:00am officers from the Palestine Police Department responded to an alarm at Aaron's Furniture located at 1900 South Loop 256 in Palestine, Texas. Officers found the front door to the business had been forced open and several items lying on the floor.

An employee of the business was called to the scene and informed police that several TV's and lap top computers had been taken from the business. Officers reviewed the video and observed and white Dodge Durango and a white van drive slowly past the front of the store just before the alarm call. This information was passed on to other local agencies in the area.

The Palestine Police Department was notified of a burglary in the Grapeland, Texas area. Deputy Clayton Smith from Houston County Sheriff's Department observed a white van leaving the area and attempted to stop the van. The subjects in the van failed to stop and lead Deputy Smith on a short pursuit.

The van was driven into some brush behind some houses in Grapeland and the suspects ran away on foot. The van was recovered and several TV's and laptop computers were located in the back of the van. Sgt. James Muniz and Detective Tommy Thacker traveled to Houston County and determined that the TV's in the van were the same TV's taken during the burglary at Aaron's Furniture in Palestine.

Deputy Smith and his partner Deputy Juan Noyola observed two suspects in the van. Both suspects were later taken into custody by Houston County SO and Grapeland PD.

It was also determined that the van used by the suspects had been stolen from Enterprise Car Rental located at 1801 South Loop 256 in Palestine, Texas.

21 year old Adolfo Valdo Elizondo and 45 year old George Lee Richard were taken into custody by the Houston County SO. Both men show a Houston, Texas address.

Based on the initial case information and information obtained from the Houston County So and Grapeland PD, arrest warrants were obtained for the Mr. Elizondo and Mr. Richard. Both men have been charged with Burglary of a Building and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. These charges are related to the van taken in Palestine and the burglary of Aaron's Furniture. Additional charges may be filed with Houston County So and Grapeland PD.

There is an ongoing investigation into the activities of these suspects. It is believed that there were others involved in the burglary at Aaron's Furniture. The Palestine PD will continue to work with the Houston County SO and the Grapeland PD concerning this investigation due to the same suspects being involved.
