WHITE OAK, TX (KLTV) – 38-year-old Angela New is out on bond Friday following her arrest Thursday for having a sexual encounter with an 18-year-old male student.
Investigators are focusing on how long Angela New may have been involved with a Union Grove High School student.
According to the arrest affidavit, New was confronted by Union Grove ISD authorities in April after they were tipped about the alleged incident, which she explained as a mothering relation.
"It was here at this housing development off Clair Street that a witness actually caught New and the young man together. We're looking into everything we can get as far as this particular case goes. We're looking into how they determined this location," says Lieutenant Fred Ellis, a Gladewater Police Investigator.
Neither New nor the teen lived at the housing project. New's arrest had some in her hometown of White Oak condemning her behavior.
Angela New is charged only with improper relationship between a student and an educator. If it turns out that the relationship goes back to before the teen in question was 18 years old, there could be more charges.
New has resigned her position from the school district.
