LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - An Angelina County grand jury issued 44 indictments Thursday, including one for a Lufkin man accused of exposing himself to children.

Jewel Vernon Swint Jr., 27, is charged with indecency with a child by exposure.

According to a previous report two witnesses in March said they were driving along Weaver Street and came upon Swint standing in the roadway.  They said they asked him to move so they could drive past, instead of moving, Swint allegedly hit the car and reached through the window towards the female occupant.

There were three young children seated in child safety seats in the back seat of the car.  The witnesses said Swint then walked around to the front of the vehicle and removed his pants, exposing himself and masturbating.  All three child safety seats were clearly visible, according to officer Nick Malone.

The affidavit also notes that when officers arrived, one officer recognized Swint from previous incidents and observed that Swint appeared to be under the influence of Phencyclidine (PCP).  Swint reportedly resisted being arrested and force had to be used to subdue him.

Among the others indicted Thursday:

* Lyle Anthony Slaughter, 20, of Nacogdoches, for aggravated assault: According to the police report, officers responded to a report of a gunshot in the 400 block of East Laurel Avenue in December. When they arrived, they learned Lyle Slaughter drove a vehicle into Maxie and that Bradly Maxie responded by firing a handgun at the vehicle.

* Dante M. Smith, 26, of Lufkin, for tampering with a governmental record:  According to the police report, an officer assigned to monitor Smith discovered he had moved from his address on the 500 block of Homer Street, shortly after he had contacted him there on Nov. 7. The officer found that Smith had moved to 312 Mantooth Ave., but he had not notified the Lufkin Police Department prior to moving and he had not registered the new address with the LPD.  The officer then obtained a warrant for the arrest, on the failure to comply charge. Officers responded to the office of Angelina County Adult Probation at 9 a.m.Tuesday, after being notified by Smith's probation officer that he was there. The probation officer then told police Smith had presented to her a fraudulent sex offender registration receipt as proof that he had met that date with Lufkin Police Department Records Section personnel and notified them that his residential address changed, according to the report. Smith had altered an old sex offender registration receipt issued to indicate that he had changed his address to 1014 East Denman Avenue Apt. 14 in Lufkin.  The probation officer knew the document had been altered because the changes were made by scribbling with an ink pen over the information on the type-written document, according to the report. The investigating officer has not yet verified Smith's current residential address. He had told his probation officer that he is living at 312 Mantooth Avenue in Lufkin but stated to the officer, and falsified the registration receipt to indicate, that he is living at 1014 East Denman Avenue Apt. 14.

* Johnny J. Colin, 24, of Lufkin, for harassment of a public servant: According to the report, an officer responded to a residence located at Laurel Plaza Trailer Park, located at 421 East Laurel Ave., in reference to a disturbance. When the officer arrived, he spoke with the resident, who said Johnny Jones Colin, 24, was intoxicated in the home and causing a disturbance. The officer did a check on Colin and learned there were two outstanding warrants for his arrest. The officer went in the home and informed him he was under arrest. Colin refused to cooperate, according to the report, so the officer took Colin to the ground. Colin then rolled onto his back and spit into the face of the officer, the reported stated. It took two officers to carry Colin to a patrol vehicle, according to the report.

* Steven Trim, 24, of Lufkin, for DWI with a child passenger: According to the arrest report, a deputy witnessed Trim driving at a speed over 90 miles an hour on State Highway 103 East. He stopped him on Neches Road and said Trim had a strong odor of alcohol and showed other signs of intoxication. Trim was driving with children aged 3, 1 and 3 months in the back seat. A woman in the passenger seat explained to the deputy that Trim was drunk from drinking at a restaurant and when they left, he would not let her drive.
