Hallsville students hosting fundraiser for world finals

HALLSVILLE, TX (KLTV) - It may be one of the most prestigious academic competitions on earth. And, two East Texas schools have earned the right to take part. Teams from All Saints and Hallsville ISD will compete in the "Odyssey of the Mind" world finals next week.

From building mechanical devices, to acting and performing literary classics, the international educational program, Odyssey of the Mind encourages kids to apply their creative thinking skills.

Two Hallsville teams won at state which means they've headed to the "world" level.

Odyssey of the Mind also allows kids to practice teamwork.

Fifth grader Valerie Stanton, and her team will compete in the world championship after creating an amazing balsa wood, unhinged structure.

The team now has to work together, again, to recreate their award-winning design for world domination.

The Hallsville team is hosting a fundraiser Friday night at the junior high, and everyone is invited to attend.

Tickets are 5 dollars per person, or twenty dollars per family.

The event will include a silent auction, Odyssey of the Mind team performances, and desserts from local restaurants.
