Teacher bonds out of jail-see arrest affidavit

UNION GROVE, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas teacher is out of jail on bond, just hours after she was arrested for an alleged improper relationship with a student.

38-year old Union Grove I-S-D teacher Angela Sue New was charged Thursday with the improper relationship charge, which reportedly goes back to an incident with an 18-year old male student back in April. New tonight, KLTV was in union grove, where the weeks before graduation have now turned scandalous.

A former student of Angela New says it's disappointing to hear something like this about one of her favorite teachers.

"To hear about things happening at your school after you graduated at the school, it's really strange, and kind of sad, because/ you want to remember your school as a very happy place and hearing all these sad things after you have left," says eighteen year old Jessica Teague.

Gladewater investigator, Fred Ellis, says, "The offense occurred supposable on April 22nd. Which was five days prior of us being informed of it and it occurred at a residence here in Gladewater."

Superintendent Brian Gray was notified on April 25th about the alleged incident between New and an 18-year old student.

"I was trying to determine if there was any substance to it and when it was my determination that they needed to be involved I contacted them immediately," Gray says.

Two days later, New was placed on administrative leave, and police were notified.

"We had enough evidence after speaking to the witness and the victim in the case that we obtained a warrant arrest this morning," says Ellis.

For now, disbelief and anger fill New's hometown of White Oak.

"It is just wrong, there is no excuse to make it right," says a Union Grove parent, Dannette Townsend.

Resident Caleb Conine says, "The students are there to learn and teachers are there to teach so for them to have relations like that I don't think has any place in a high school like that."

New's former student has a new perspective of her favorite teacher, "Its very shocking, its not something I would expect to hear."

Angela New bonded out of the Gregg County jail earlier this evening on a bond set at twenty thousand dollars.
