TYLER, TX (KLTV) -   Tyler I.S.D. has found it's new athletic director.   The school board unanimously approved the hire of Rod Kaspar Thursday night.

Kaspar comes to Tyler from McKinney I.S.D. where he's been assistant athletic director.

"I can't describe it,"said Kaspar.  "This is an opportunity of a lifetime for me. I can't wait to get here Monday morning and hit the ground running."

The day Kaspar was hired, he learned a longtime Tyler Lee football coach Mike Owens had turned in his resignation.

"Everything I've heard about coach Owens, he's done a great job in Tyler," said Kaspar.  "He's done a great job with his kids and organization of the athletic program at Robert E. Lee.  As far as anything else, I'm just going to have to wait until I meet with the proper people in the personnel department and see which way we're going to move from there."

Kaspar replaces Danny Long, who resigned from Tyler I.S.D. in January to accept a position in Conroe.

"Danny laid a great foundation for Tyler," said Kaspar.  "He brought in some great coaches and improvements to facilities. I'm going to take his foundation and continue to build on in."

Leading the offense is TCU transfer quarterback Brennen Wooten, along with Nicholas Gerber who is fresh off of setting the Texas high school single-season records for passing yards (5,617) and touchdowns (77).  There is no reason TJC shouldn't reach the end-zone.  "Brennen Wooten came in here as a big leader, coaching everybody up.
