Pine Tree bus driver drops students off at wrong stops

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) – An investigation is underway into an incident after students were dropped off at the wrong stops on Wednesday, and some students missed their stops all together.

Pine Tree officials say the incident happened on one of their afternoon routes.

"We found out about an incident with a bus driver and their behavior. We know that kids were dropped off not at their stop," says Vicky Echols, the Pine Tree ISD Public Information Officer.

According to students we spoke with, angry words were exchanged between the driver and students, leading to several students missing their stops.

"Our Director of Transportation took immediate action and took over the bus route. It was really a serious thing to us when we have any report on our student's safety," added Echols.

The driver has been removed from bus duty while the district investigates exactly what happened.

The district has not confirmed whether the driver was a teacher or served in any other capacity for the district, but they want parents to rest at ease that they are investigating.

Right now, no charges have been filed. Another driver will be assigned to take over the bus route.

Statement Released by Pine Tree ISD:

Immediate action was taken regarding a Pine Tree bus driver yesterday and an investigation began in response to how a student's behavior was handled and the evidence that some students were not dropped off at their assigned stops.

As soon as the incident was reported, the driver of the bus was notified to stop the route and the Director of Transportation stepped in to complete the route.

Pine Tree takes allegations very seriously which is why swift action was taken.  All bus drivers receive extensive training to learn how to manage students, operate the bus, and provide first aid.  Bus driver mistakes are frankly few and far between, but when they happen, we make it a priority to respond immediately for the safety and well being of our students.
