Airman Reid Parker gets a hero's welcome home

LINDALE, TX (KLTV) – Airman Reid Parker got a hero's welcome and then some when he arrived in Lindale on Wednesday. Although the crowd welcoming Parker home was large, it was also smaller than it usually is.

Airman Parker is retiring … sort of. He's served his tour of duty for the Air Force and is heading for college, after a small crowd gives him a much deserved welcome home.

The expanded Welcome Home Soldiers group featured 40 first and second-graders from Mineola which more than doubled the welcome home.

"I think it's wonderful. It's emotional every time. I joined this group after he got back from being deployed and it was just so exciting and I was so emotional about that. When I would go to another soldier's, I wasn't sure it would be as emotional, but it is. You can't help it; you tear up every time," says Karen Crawford, Reid's mother.

Crawford appreciated the students coming, too. That took some coordinating. Mineola Primary had to try twice to make this work, and they hope to do it again.

Airman Parker served for four years as a computer analyst and earned his associates degree while in the Air Force. He plans on going for a master's degree.
