Murff Scholarhip Award Winners Honored

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - The Division III Junior College World Series is coming back to Tyler.

And as they have in the past years, at todays media day two student athletes were awarded with the Sara Hightower Murff scholarship.

This year's winners were Tyler Lee baseball standout Andrew Stephens and Grace softball standout Katie Gusa.

Sara hightower murff was there to present the honor.

"I have alot of emotions," said Murff, "I am just so glad to see this continue."

Murff is the widow of former baseball player Red Murff, the MLB scout that discovered Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan.

The world series always brings back memories.

"He would be very proud, that is what his idea of life was, to help young people however he could," said Murff of her late husband, "So he would be very happy today."

The Division III World Series starts on Saturday.
