Grandfather questioned in death of daughter's ex-boyfriend

MARION CO, TX (KSLA) - A Marion County man is being questioned in the shooting death of his daughter's estranged boyfriend.  Marion County authorities say the killing was the result of an "ongoing dispute" between the two men.

24-year-old Donte Mitchell was struck in the neck by a shotgun blast and killed late Sunday night in the domestic dispute on County Road 3222.

David McKnight with the Marion County Sheriff's Office tells KSLA News 12 they were on the phone with the mother of Mitchell's six-month-old son, who was saying her father had a gun and the two were fighting. They lost connection and when they got connection back 30 seconds later, she was hysterically screaming that he had shot him.

According to authorities, the suspect, Troy Long III, is cooperating with the investigation.  No charges have been filed yet.

Mitchell's body has been sent to Marshall for an autopsy.
