Rusk Co. shooting suspect arrested

On Monday, May 16, 2011, at approximately 1:00 a.m., Sheriff Danny R. Pirtle and Rusk County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigators responded to a call of a gunshot victim on County Road 462, in Rusk County. The victim suffered gunshot wounds to the lower torso and was transported via helicopter to a local hospital for emergency surgery. The victim remains in the hospital and is currently in ICU.

The Rusk County Investigators conducted an investigation into the shooting, which led to an arrest warrant of suspect Timothy Scarborough, 30, of Henderson. The arrest warrant was issued by County Court at Law Judge Chad Dean. Scarborough was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault, Causing Serious Bodily Injury, a felony of the second degree punishable by confinement of up to twenty years in the Texas Department of Corrections.

At approximately 11:00 a.m., the suspect was arraigned by Justice of the Peace, Precinct 5, Judge Joe Sorrells, and Scarborough's bond was set at $20,000. The suspect currently remains in the Rusk County Jail.

Sheriff Danny R. Pirtle stated if a person is involved in criminal activity, they will be pursued, arrested, and brought to justice.

The investigation continues and more information will be released as it become available.
