TYLER, TX (KLTV/UT-Tyler) - The University of Texas at Tyler defeated Louisiana College in the championship game of the Tyler Regional in the 2011 NCAA Division III Softball Championships.
The wild 8-7 win sends the Patriots to the Finals next week in Salem, Va.
Jessie Bross hit a game-winning single in the bottom of the 7th inning, to give the Patriots a come from behind victory.
"At first when I saw the ball was on the ground, I was like run fast run fast, and when I saw it through I started jumping down the line, when I turned around it was like a herd of cattle running at me," said Bross, "I went down because I knew they would tackle me, it is just the best feeling in the world.
"When we pulled it through, everyone was so excited, it is what we have worked for all season," said Katelyn Thomason, "So this is what we wanted, it makes us feel accomplished."
The Patriots took a 6-5 lead in the 6th after Thomason scored on a fielding error.
Louisiana College took a 7-6 lead with two runs in the top of the 7th.
"We made it closer than we should have been," said sophomore Joey Cronin, "But it was awesome to just run out there and it is exactly what we wanted."
UT-Tyler tied it in the bottom of the 7th when Thomason hit a fly ball that was miss-played in the outfield allowing Whitney Wyly to score.
After a walk to load the bases, Bross brought home the winner.
The Patriots will play Luther College of Decorah, Iowa (41-4), winner of the Eau Claire, Wisc. Regional, on Friday at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex.
Game times are to be announced.
