Pine Tree to get new football stadium

By Coleman Swierc

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - By less than 100 votes, a bond issue has been passed by Pine Tree ISD that will allow for the building of a new football stadium.

The bond passed on Saturday afternoon is worth nearly $30 million dollars.

Included in the bond are plans to build a new stadium for the football team.

"It is a positive move forward," said Derek Fitzhenry, the new Athletic Director at PT, "I think the community of Pine Tree made a big statement that they want to move forward."

The passing of the bond puts to rest the controversy over old Pine Tree stadium, which was subject to ADA code-violations and several other code violations in the past few years.

The new stadium issue had been on previous ballots, but and always failed prior to tonight.

"It means a big deal to our program and will be a big boost to us," added Fitzhenry, "The amount of energy and passion our people put into it makes it fun to see them be succesful."

There is no word as of yet on when construction would be scheduled to begin.
