2 fire departments on scene of Cherokee Co. house fire

RUSK, TX (KLTV) - One East Texas home caught fire this afternoon around 1pm just north of the City of Rusk.  Firefighters were dispatched to the scene and when they arrived found the house engulfed in flames.  The homeowner placed the 9-1-1 call.

Crews tell us he heard the smoke detector going off in the upper part of the house.  He went up to turn it off and that's when he saw the smoke.  When he got back downstairs the fire was starting to become un-controllable.  He was able to get out of the house without any injuries.  The home itself was reduced to a pile of rubble with only the chimney visible.  Fire crews got to the scene and had to soak their own vehicles to keep them operating correctly because of the heat.

Nobody was injured and the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but fire investigators will be on the scene on Saturday to pin point the cause of the fire.
