Woman blames February accident on blinking yellow arrow

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas woman blames a major car wreck she had in February on a flashing yellow arrow. It happened at the intersection of Loop 323 and Commerce St. in Tyler.

Pat Malone, who lives in Gladewater, says she had no idea what the blinking yellow arrow meant, and she's got a message for the City of Tyler.

Malone says the intersection brings back bad memories. Last year, she was t-boned while trying to turn left on a flashing yellow arrow. Suddenly, the passenger side of her car caved in.

Moments later, she says her car landed in a ditch.

While in the hospital, Malone says she was ticketed for failure to yield right of way. In hindsight, she says it wasn't fair.

Malone's son says the city should have educated the public on what these yellow arrows mean.

The Michigan Department of Transportation put out a public service announcement when they implemented the change.

Malone says she hopes the city hears her concerns before anyone else is hurt or killed.

Police say Malone pleated no contest to the failure to yield charge and was put on deferred probation.
