Severe thunderstorms possible today

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Another round of much needed rain is headed towards East Texas but unfortunately a few of the storms this afternoon/evening and tonight, could be strong to severe. The only portion of East Texas that is in a SLIGHT RISK at this time is the far northern sections of the area...along the Red River and counties just south of that. Right now it appears the main threat will be large hail and gusty winds with only a very, very small chance of an isolated tornado in the strongest cells. In addition to isolated showers and thundershowers/storms, a few of these storms could produce very heavy, much needed, rain. A few areas of East Texas saw over 3 inches of rain yesterday and any additional heavy rain could cause some localized flooding.

All this activity is forming ahead of a strong cold front that will move through the area early tomorrow morning. Behind this front much cooler and drier air will move in. High this weekend will only be in the 70s, a nice refreshing change to the record heat we saw earlier this week.
