Hunt for gunman continues

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV)- Police are continuing their search for a suspect who shot a man and then stole his car.

Authorities say Monday around 8:15 PM,  24- year-old Thomas Morrow  was shot off of CR 310  near the Pilot Travel Center on FM 14, just North of I-20 in Tyler.

Lt. Tony Dana says Morrow knew the suspect and identified him as "Chopper"  and said he needed a favor.

"One of the individuals he knew the other one he was introduced to last night, he agreed to give them a ride to a location off of FM 14 near Interstate 20 to meet a friend of there's from Dallas," said Lt. Tony Dana, Smith County Sheriff's Office.

Dana says they parked off of a dirt road on CR 310, but as they were waiting things took a turn for the worst.

"He hears noises and when he turns around he sees that one of these individuals has a hand gun and at that point he realizes he's being shot at," said Dana.

That's when Dana says Morrow started running for help.
"He goes to a neighbors house to try and seek help but he doesn't get an answer there so he proceeds down FM 14 crosses the highway and winds up in the parking lot of the pilot truck stop," said Dana.

Officials say soon after, "Chopper" and the other individual took Morrow's car and left.
Fortunately, Morrow is expected to make a full recovery.

The Smith County Sheriff's Office says they're not sure how dangerous these individuals are.
So they encourage anyone who happens to see them or Morrow's vehicle to call police immediately.
