Palestine man suffers gunshot wound to face

PALESTINE, TX - On May 4, 2011 officers from the Palestine Police Department were called to the Palestine Regional Medical Center (PRMC) located at 2900 South Loop 256 in Palestine, Texas concerning a gunshot victim. Upon arrival officer were advised that a black male had been brought to the emergency room by private vehicle. The black male had suffered a single gunshot wound to the face.

Officers were able to identify the victim as Gregory E. Sloan Jr. 22 years of age. Sloan was treated at PRMC and then transported, by air, to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, Texas.   

Sloan did speak with detectives before being transported to Tyler. Detectives learned that Sloan was in the 200 block of Douglas St. in Palestine at the time of the shooting incident. Sloan told officers that he was in his car at the time he was shot. Sloan was unable to give any other details at the time he talked with police as the gunshot had hit him in the area of his mouth.

Police did talk with several people in the area where the shooting place and were able to obtain a small amount of additional information.

Detectives will be seeking a second interview with the victim after his release from the hospital. Police are hoping for more detailed information from the victim and anyone who may have been with the victim at the time of the shooting.
