LeTourneau honors professor with dedication

LONGVIEW,TX (KLTV)- Last week, we told you the story of LeTourneau University professor Bill Kielhorn , suffering from stage 4 cancer, who had not missed a day of work in 45 years, even giving his last class from a hospital bed.

Thursday, the university and the students came up with their own way to say thank you, called 'burn down the wall'. Brought straight from his hospital room,  Kielhorn was honored by having the LeTourneau Materials Joining Engineering building named for him.

"Its overwhelming , very overwhelming and I'm just so thankful to the lord and to the University for this great honor," Kielhorn says.

In a symbolic ceremony, a cutting torch was used to hole the wall , officially anointing the structure after him.

"I feel that it is a great honor for him, not only for LeTourneau honoring him in this way but he has been a great husband a great family man a great provider," says Bill's wife of 58 years, Betty Kielhorn.

He had spent a lifetime teaching kids, and who settle for nothing less than his very best in every class he taught.

"Since the students paid for the course they were taking I better give them all the money's worth I could," Bill says.

He was presented a plaque for his remarkable service to the University and countless students. Those who knew him say there is no more fitting honor , than his name should be a permanent part of the school.

"So many people loved him and when they donated toward this they said I remember his devotionals and I remember his spirit and his incredible competence," says fellow LeTourneau professor Yani Adonyi.

Through it all, Kielhorn maintains he was just a servant, as he hopes his students will go on to be.

"I just hope it can be an inspiration to them to do their very best with regards to them serving humanity and serving the Lord," he says.
