Prayer day in Tyler

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Tyler Mayor Barbara Bass held her annual Mayor's Prayer Breakfast this morning at Harvey Hall Convention Center.

More than a thousand East Texans joined Mayor Bass along with public servants to pray in unity both in the City of Tyler and around the nation.

It's a day that's brought an entire community together all for one reason.

"Today we are praying for our nation we're praying for our community and then beyond that we're praying for our family units we're praying for our military we're praying for people who are facing all kinds of crisis in their lives," said Mayor Barbara Bass, City of Tyler.

Prayers that Mayor Barbara Bass hopes will help our nation.

"We're praying for the community leaders across the nation and in our community we want gods wisdom and gods guidance in each and everything we do," said Mayor Bass.

For those who weren't able to make out to this morning's prayer breakfast, religious leaders held a prayer for the community on the square so that their voice could also be heard.

"If we could get people to do that America would be on the mend the only hope for America in my opinion is prayer and the prayer of the American people praying for god to reveal goodness and his plan for America here in the united states," said Senior Pastor Lou Thomas, Lane Chapels United Methodist Church.

Pastor Thomas says this is the first prayer on the square and he hopes it becomes an annual tradition.
