TYLER, TX (KLTV) - The City of Tyler is honoring a teacher for her years of dedicated service to our community.

They have dedicated a marker at 1407 South Lyons Avenue in Tyler.

That is where the honoree, Katie Stewart, grew up.

The marker was unveiled Wednesday morning, and it displays a picture and information about Stewart.

Stewart taught at T.J. Austin Elementary and Emmett Scott high School.

Tyler Councilman Donald Sanders says she remained active during her later years, "I think the thing that stood out most in my mind is that after she turned a hundred- years-old, she came to the poles to vote at the Tyler Independent School District building where I was election judge."

Stewart Middle School in Tyler was also named after her father.
