Missing person found because of his cell phone

TITUS COUNTY, TX (KLTV)- Titus County authorities say a cell phone led them to the body of a missing man.

Authorities found James Glen Davis dead in his pick-up truck in a wooded area between FM 3417 and US 271, last week.

Officials believe he suffered a heart attack after he left church.

"There was someone at the church that saw him at church and they were thinking that something bad had happened to him," said Lt. Brent Smith, Titus County Investigator.

Days later, still no word from James, or "Goober" as he was known to his friends.

"There was no indication in this one that he had gone and done something else or had left the state or anything else like that because he always makes contact with his family," said Smith.

His family knew something was wrong with after phone call.

"What really clued us in was when work started calling and asking is your son there," said James Davis, father.

With nothing to go on investigators tried something new.

"We have a law enforcement contact with Verizon and they immediately gave me coordinates
and things of cell phone towers and distances from these towers," said Smith.

With the help of two cell phone towers, Smith was able to narrow down the area where Davis may be.

"And he was looking the in the hardest places he could think of off the road to look ," said Tim Ingram, Titus County Sheriff.

"I caught a glimpse of something white in the bushes," said Smith.

Behind the brush, Smith found James' pick-up with James inside it.

"We do feel that his passing away was very quick we don't think he suffered," said Ingram.

And while the family is still mourning the loss of their loved one, they're happy his disappearance is no longer a mystery.

Officials are still waiting for James' autopsy results to find out the cause of death. There is no word when the results will be available.
